Lance Cpl. Daniel G. Raney, 21, of Pleasant View, Tennessee, died July 9, 2010, while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. Lance Cpl. Raney was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Oh sweet Penny, Ron told me about Gabe. I cried and prayed last night, all night after hearing the word. At least the pain is over for him and he is in a better place. As it says in the bible we should celebrate the deaths and be more sad about the births. Keep your faith and strength for Luke. Give him a fighting chance like you did Gabe. That boy needs you. Please stay around for him if nothing else. Your struggles have been many and your pain has almost been unbearable. Please remember God does not give us anything we can not handle. Nothing is as bad as you doing what you always said you wanted to do. Please stay with us Penny. The world needs you.
