Sgt. Eric C. Newman, 30, of Waynesboro, Mississippi, died October 14, 2010, in Akatzai Kalay, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit using an improvised explosive device. Sgt. Newman was assigned to 1st Squadron, 38th Cavalry Regiment, 525th Battlefield Surveillance Brigade, XVIII Airborne Corps, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
