My Hero, PFC Lori Ann Piestewa

I proudly wear my Hero Bracelet bearing the name of Pfc Lori Ann Piestewa.

Piestewa was the first Native American Woman to be killed in combat.  She

was from Tuba City Arizona, where my hero, my dad lives.  My dad is a Korean

War Veteran.  He took me to Piestewa Peak, formerly known as Squaw Peak.  I

felt a closeness to my dad I have never felt, and a deep gratitude for his

sacrifice as well as the sacrifice Pfc Piestewa gave for her country.

I am a photographer at Lackland Air Force Base, and could have chosen one of

the brave Airmen who have given so much for this country, but something deep

inside told me to honor Pfc Piestewa.

I wear my bracelet everyday and I am often asked who she was, and I am happy

to spread her story.

Thank you
