My Hero is my son, William Alexander Templeton.
My Hero is my son, William Alexander Templeton. He is in the United States Navy. Currently he is in NMCB 7 and is a Utlilitiesman 3rd Class. Alex has been in the Navy for 2 years and 4 months. During this time Alex has achieved the Navy Achievement Medal, been "capped" to 3rd Class Petty Officer, chosen to represent the United States SeaBees at the 50th Anniversary of the Daytona 500 in 2008, awarded the Jr. Blue Jacket of the Quarter during his deployment to Okinawa, Japan, and Nominated for Sailor of the Year for his outstanding performance. Alex was also awarded the SeaBee Combat Warrior Pin during his deployment to Okinawa, and because of his superior performance on the SeaBee Combat Warrior Pin requirements, has been helping his fellow SeaBees achieve theirs. I hope I got all this right!
Alex has just deployed to Iraq. He will be there in support of the United States Marines providing anything they need. I am not sure what his actual detail is, but in addition to his assigned duties, Alex will be helping 45-60 fellow SeaBees achieve their SeaBee Combat Warrior Pins. He will also be a Religious Contact for his company, helping any sailors who need a shoulder to lean on and will help them contact the Chaplain. Alex's main base will be Al-Taqaddum (Camp TQ) about 50 miles west of Baghdad.
I purchased a Hero Bracelet to wear during Alex's deployment to Iraq. I put in on on Sunday September 28, 2008 and will wear it until he returns. It helps me feel closer to him.
During Alex's Iraq Deployment, his fiance will have his first child. He won't meet his little girl until he returns.
I am very proud of Alex. And very proud to wear my bracelet. Hopefully, it will help other people remember the War In Iraq and Afghanistan and the many, many young people who are their on our behalf. Thanks for asking me about this!
