Our Hero. Specialist Alun Richard Howells

US Army SPC Alun R. Howells was killed in action on August 13th, 2007 in Baghdad, Iraq from injuries sustained by an armor-piercing grenade when enemy forces attacked his unit. He was my big brother, my best friend, a wonderful son to my parents, and he was loved by so many people. Before being deployed, he said that his biggest fear was not losing his life, but being forgotten if he never made it home. He will NEVER be forgotten.

In his final hours, Alun wrote that all he wanted was to "meet all my family and friends in a nice pub that's NOT IN IRAQ and sit down and have a beer and some Fish 'n' Chips with them, and be grateful for their presence and humor and all the other things I took for granted before I left... I miss you all! I hope you know you're loved, and I can't wait to see you all again." -Posted on August 12th, 2007
