In Memory of PFC Jason M Meyer

It's been 12 years and 2 months since we were given the news that every parent of a serviceman fears. PFC Jason M Meyer was KIA in Operation Iraqi Freedom, on 08 APR 2003 at the Baghdad Airport.  So, how does a parent or step-parent of a war death cope? We get involved with Gold Star groups and other parents. We search on line for ways to memorialize them. We make contact with other "survivors" and groups. We never let them be forgotten.  One of the first "things" we were given, w...

In Memory of SGT JOSEPH HILL JR.

My friend lost his friend recently ~ this is what Garrett wrote to honor his friend, and to begin his healing process of grief. Poignant, and a fitting tribute, have a hanky ready.   "That day the sun shown bright, and the wind blew lightly. It was a beautiful day, and yet the most somber of my life. The same flag we wore on our shoulders with pride, is now draped over you. The wind dare not move this one though. We went to hell on the other side of the world, and made it back whole. ...

In Memory of George Ellsworth Kenyon

This is my daddy.  He had blonde curly hair and was a dapper lad. I think all these young guys look adorable !   This is his Naval photo in San Diego, 1951 and on his way to the Korean War.  Did you know this War never ended?   The fighting ended on 27 July 1953, when the armistice was signed. The agreement created the Korean Demilitarized Zone to separate North and South Korea, and allowed the return of prisoners. Clashes have continued to the present. Dad's dad, Comman...
